History of Ailsa 388

It was delivered new to the Greenland Road(GR) garage, Darnall, where it operated from for its entire 10 year stay with the South Yorkshire PTE.

It could be found working routes such as the 69 to Rotherham, 71 Prince of Wales Road Circular, and on some occasions the 277 to Doncaster.

Upon withdrawal with the rest of the batch 388 was sold with other vehicles from the same garage to Hampshire Bus, where it operated in Southampton

After Southhampton, 388 spent a brief spell operating for Magic Bus in Glasgow, and Carlisle, before migrating further to Blue Triangle at Liverpool.

In 1989, 388 finally ended up at Black Prince Coaches of Morley, Leeds, where it ran for a further 5 years, receiving 2 repaints, before finally being withdrawn and sold to The 388 Group in October 1994.

At the time of purchase, 388 was one of only 4 remaining Vanhool bodied Ailsas delivered to the SYPTE to remain in existance.
